The Rest of the Story - Don Beck 8/12/08

As I look at my writing dated 3/30/79 I noticed several errors I made in identifying locations.  I failed to mention that we turned down what is known as “Burt Road” off of Bradyville Pike in order to travel to old Rogers’ Hollow, where was once located the home of his grandfather, Tom Rogers.

The old cemetery was located behind an old weather-worn barn and was filled with small trees, vines and thick vegetation.  So much that we could not actually walk through it.  Grandpa was upset that the cemetery where is grandparents were laid to rest had been so neglected.  He told me that he needed to call some of the folks who had ancestors buried there and see it they could get a group up for a workday on the place.

The cousin who lived at Grandpa’s homeplace was Beecher Rogers.

The last picture, showing the headstones of Robert and Catherine Knox, was not taken as Thyatira but at the Curlee Cemetery of the Curlee Church of Christ which is not far from Thyatira,

Grandpa did what he said.  The old cemetery was cleaned up and markers were set where the old stones had been scattered.  A few headstones were named, among them Tom and Margaret Rogers.  So looking from the “Burt Road” toward the old barn, you can see the Todd Cemetery .  A large new sign was erected and the site enclosed with a white post fence.  Grandpa’s grandparents’ resting places were restored to dignity.
